It essentially is a website that randomizes that helps bored people like myself surf the web. When you sign up you are asked to check off interests that you have, and based on these interests it will randomly reveal a web page that may pique your interest. Of course there are times where the page may be irrelevant to you, but the cool thing is that every time you click on the dislike button your preferences get narrower and eventually prove to be more likable.
I would not suggest using this application for looking up something specific obviously. I would suggest using this application for other reasons though:
1. It kills time when you have nothing better to do.
2. The toolbar is simple to use.
3. Rating websites has never been easier.
With something awesome there is always flaws:
1. Writing reviews for other websites could be easier.
2. Changing your interests is confusing.
3. Not useful for looking for something specific.
The above pros and cons are for the "average joe" though. StumbleUpon for me is a great resource. I use it to pass time in class when I am tired of listening to the professor talk about economics or politics, and I find it really resourceful for finding blogging material. Since my profession involves writing on blogs, StumbleUpon will prove to be a great asset to me. I highly suggest all bloggers to invest in using StumbleUpon, especially if your having a hard time finding a topic to write about. So here is to the makers of StumbleUpon. I give you a toast of appreciation.
